On 20th June, Liz Simpson held the first assessment of the TRSS Basic Techniques Teacher bolt on for qualified Ride Leaders. Candidates were given a brief outline of what the examiners will be looking for before picking a brief to coach for 20 minutes on a given subject either on a one to one basis or small group. This bolt on has been piloted to expand on the Ride Leader exams and develop techniques to enable candidates to take novice clients forward and improve their skills. Briefs ranged from a one to one beginner lead rein session to rising trot and developing balance and control. Seven qualified Ride Leaders attended the day and all passed their assessments. Well done to the following:Lee-Anne Menzies
Poppy Hadley all from Highland Horse Fun,
Jess Ross both from Argyll Adventure,
Eilidh Cadden from Alvie Stables,
Ross Young from Crieff Hydro.
As some of the above hold their Senior Ride Leader qualification, we will also be running an advanced Techniques Teacher bolt on at a later date which will include the ability to lunge a horse and rider when required. This level will take a rider forward into riding at faster paces and also include techniques for riding over more challenging terrain. This level will be much more in depth, with candidates showing the ability to coach riders in all aspects of riding on the trail and develop their skills in safe, enclosed environments.
Centres who have qualified Ride Leaders can request an examiner to assess in house, providing they have a minimum of four candidates. All candidates coming forward for the assessment must have a current first aid certificate on the day of assessment and hold a full Ride Leader qualification.
